About us
The Afe Babalola Centre for Transnational Education is committed to expanding access to world-class learning opportunities across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Established through the generosity of visionary philanthropist Aare Afe Babalola and supported by the academic excellence of King’s College London, the Centre collaborates with universities and organisations across the continent to co-create flexible, high-quality programmes that meet learners’ needs wherever they are.
Rooted in the belief that education should be shaped by those it serves, the Centre champions a model of transnational education that is grounded in local contexts, led by African expertise and designed to unlock opportunity at scale. By training educators and creating diverse and recognised learning pathways, we help young people across Africa develop the skills, confidence and mindset to become leaders, innovators and changemakers in their communities.
About the role
This part-time, fixed term post (0.5 FTE) represents a unique opportunity to provide academic leadership for the personal tutoring model within the Foundation Certificate in Applied Health.
The post holder will lead the design and monitoring of the programme’s personal tutoring provision. This will include developing schemes of work for personal tutoring sessions, supporting consistency of practice across the tutor team, monitoring student engagement and progression, and ensuring that emerging concerns are identified and responded to appropriately.
The role will also act as the programme’s Designated Safeguarding Officer, providing a clear point of coordination for safeguarding concerns and working closely with relevant King’s services and programme colleagues to ensure that appropriate processes are followed.
In addition, you will be responsible for your own cohort of personal tutees, as well as supervising several students’ capstone projects as the culmination of the programme.
Delivered fully online, the programme is the flagship educational pillar of the Afe Babalola Centre for Transnational Education. You will be a key member of a passionate academic team, delivering the programme to talented but underserved young people across Sub-Saharan Africa. Our collective mission is to enable these young people, including those displaced by conflict or living in remote rural areas, to transition to higher education or employment through the power of distance learning.
To meet this extraordinary challenge, we are looking for an educator who shares our commitment to social justice and is willing to go the extra mile for our students. You will be a qualified teacher or academic with experience of coordinating personal tutoring schemes. You may be working at a university, school or a further education college, designing and delivering learning at level 3.
If a candidate wishes to combine the part-time Senior Tutor role with part-time Module Leader position, [link] to make up a full-time working arrangement, they should clearly indicate it in their personal statement and consider submitting a separate application for the Module Leader role.
This is a part-time post (17.5 hours per week, 0.5 FTE), and you will be offered a fixed-term contract for 2 years.
